Mohawk Food Warriors

Mohawk Food Warriors need your help! This is the third year that Westfield is the distribution center for the Mohawk Area Schools. Did you know that each month, several hundred bags of food are packed and distributed to students in the elementary and the high school? Individual bags are handed out to students each Friday for them to take home in their backpacks. Each bag contains non-perishable food items to get these food-dependent children the meals they need for the weekend. Many kids rely on the school and this program to provide healthy foods throughout the school year.

Here are some simple ways to help:

Unload/Organize. On food pick up day, help is needed at the church to unload and organize the food. This typically takes place on the third Tuesday of the month. (The dates are determined by the distribution center in New Castle which gets the food from the Pittsburgh Food Bank). You would need to be at the church from approx. 9:30-11:00.

Pack. Help with packing! This happens on the first Wednesday of each month. Many hands make light work!

Transport/Unload. Transport the packed bags to the school. The best way for this is with an enclosed trailer and several larger SUV style vehicles. Extra hands are needed at the school to help unload and stack the bags.

Please consider how you can give your time to this vital program. There are sign-ups in the Narthex. Please be sure to list your cell phone and email address in order to stay connected. If you have any questions, please contact Phyllis McCullough at 724-651-6285 or psumudder@yahoo.com.
