Spring Party for Special Olympians
by Pat Byers
We are so excited to share with you that Westfield will host our second Special Olympics Spring Party in the Community Center on Saturday, May 2, from 6-9 p.m.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Jill and I have been involved in Lawrence County Special Olympics for over 25 years. Our athletes range in age from eight to sixty-five plus years. We have five competitive sports: basketball, bocce, volleyball, bowling, and swimming. All of our coaches and staff are dedicated volunteers. There is never a fee for the athletes to participate.
The evening will include a light dinner followed by dancing to DJ Spidey in the gym. Board games, corn hole, and other activities with be set up in the Gathering Space. Several of the coaches will be attending along with some parents of athletes.
Not only does our committee need help to make and serve food but we also need volunteers of all ages to be greeters, mingle with guests by dancing with them and playing games. Sign up posters will be located in the narthex and you may call or text me at 724.674.5193 with questions.
Thank you for supporting this ministry! Let’s show these very special athletes that they are loved by God and that we are so happy to have them return again this year.
